What feels fun about the game thus far is how many ways you're using your spear. Although the game can be a bit frustrating in places, it's what these retro Metroidvania games are designed for - to cater to a more hardcore gaming audience. Your hero's abilities and the way you use your spear combine to set an exciting tone of gameplay and make overcoming challenges fun. So is Slavania good thus far? Yep, it's pretty entertaining. There will be some emotional rollercoasters that one will need to navigate. We've had a glimpse into this in the demo, but we're sure this will be a core mechanic when we see the final result of Slavania. You'll use your trusty, versatile spear for hunting monsters throughout the land, where the story seems to develop according to your choices throughout the game. There will be tough battles, pinpoint obstacles, and numerous strategies to overcome your foes. Players will take on the role of an immortal hero, equipped with nothing but a spear, to take on the challenges of the imprisoned world he resides in. The retro visuals take the color palette of Eastern European forests and stonework, providing the backdrop for legends to be told within the Slavania world. So how does that infuse into the gameplay? Here we will find a game with hack-and-slash, 2D platform mechanics paired with Slavic myths and legends inspiration. That sort of defines the background of gameplay almost immediately. The vaguely funny thing about Slavania is that the game title is a portmanteau of the words Slavic and Metroidvania. Will it be any different from the other platformers? What mechanics will power the premise of gameplay? We'll have to jump into Slavania to find out. However, we've been treated to a game demo to learn how this Metroidvania game will immerse us into this Slavic folklore-inspired world. Slavania does not have a planned release date. They look to be more of a challenge than anything.

Despite Slavania taking on a retro aesthetic, the mechanics look far from the 2D platformers we've known and loved. Perhaps it takes us back to our gaming nostalgia of the early consoles and strips down mechanics so that gameplay is more enjoyable. Retro platformers seem to be all the rage lately.
